Friday Agenda

Dear Grade 3's & Parents,

It's that time of year where many of you become restless about Summer Holidays as it is right around the corner. Before any of us will realize, it will be Summer Break.

Please continue to remember to show respect and strong listening skills to everyone in class. We seem to be forgetting some common rules of kindness.

Let's work hard Monday to get back on track - we've come a long way this year in getting to know and appreciate one another.

Share with your parents, the beautiful and creative weaving projects I sent home today. I have enjoyed having them in the classroom. Great job everyone.

Also, share with them your thoughts on the great kickball game that the teachers had against the grade 4 students. Both teams showed great effort and finesse. However, the grade 4's ended up winning in the end. A fun time was had by all.

See you all Monday. Have a fantastic weekend - get outside and enjoy the sun.

Staff Appreciation Lunch ---- Tuesday May 3rd, 2011

Hi Moms, Dads and Friends:

With June quickly approaching, we would like to thank the staff at Panorama Hills School for everything they have done for our children this year.

We are hosting a Staff Appreciation Lunch for the teachers and support staff on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.  To make this event a success, we are asking for the support and participation of parents.

We are looking for volunteers to provide food and/or their time for set up as well as tidy up afterwards.   If you are able to contribute in either way we would greatly appreciate it.

If you are providing a food donation, please bring it to the office by 10:30am on
May 3rd in a container labeled with your name (this will make it easier to identify when you pick it up).  To ensure these delicious dishes do not go to waste, we suggest you send 4 - 5 servings only.   A little note of why you appreciate a staff member would be fantastic to share as well.

If you are able to volunteer for the event itself, please email Jen Rathbone at dougandjen@shaw.ca by April 23rd, indicating what time you are available:
We’d love your help at:
  • 10:30 – noon (preparation)
  • 12:30pm to 2pm (clean up)
If you are not a home cooking kind of person, yet would like to express your appreciation, here’s a few other ideas have been shared by the staff -

  • They would love plants for the classrooms and offices.  All plants will be cared for over the summer so they can join us again in September.
  • As you know, our library is in need of more books – especially picture books.   A gift template will be placed on the inside cover of each donated book.  If you would like assistance in choosing a title, please visit the library assistant, Mrs. Keall.
As always, thank you for your support!

See you tomorrow.

Additional Spring Concert Information

Please review the following information from Mrs. Mann:

The Spring Concert has finally arrived!  Doors open a half hour before the show, and students are expected to arrive between 6:00 and 6:15 on the evening of their performance.  Please drop off and pick up your child(ren) at the classroom.  As the children are presenting two full performances, it is important that all students are present for both shows.

Remember, YOU MUST HAVE A TICKET TO ATTEND THE SHOW.  Young children who are able to sit on an adult's lap do not need a ticket.  Please plan to arrive early, as parking is limited.  If you are unexpectedly delayed, late seating will take place during the first appropriate pause in the program.  Assigned seats are not guaranteed after the performance starts.  Latecomers will be seated in the back out of courtesy to the performers and other audience members.

Panorama Hills School has hired a professional videographer to record all performances, and copies of the DVD will be available for purchase.  We ask that you please refrain from taking photos or video of the performance, as it interferes with the sight lines of other audience members and blocks access for the performers.

Thank you for your support and encouragement, and enjoy the show!

No Spelling Homework Tonight

Dear Grade 3's & Parents,

Apologies for not posting the agenda earlier. I am still at school trying to decorate the gym for our Spring Concert next week.

Spelling
There is no spelling homework tonight as we did not have time today add new words to our list. You will get additional words tomorrow for your test Friday.

Swimming
It was so great to see all of you in the pool today. The excitement and fun that you had showing off your swimming abilities was the highlight of my day. Thank you for showing great manners and for showing great listening skills for your instructors. Remember to have a great sleep tonight.

Share with your parents, how you did today at the pool.

Music - Spring Concert
As reviewed during class time, Mrs. Mann truly needs you to be watchful when she conducts you. She also needs the groups waiting to be quiet and not to talk when she is doing her job. Everyone did a great job today in the performance part of the practice but we do need to show more consideration for Mrs. Mann. She has asked that you sing louder tomorrow.

Thanks for reading the agenda. See you tomorrow.

Water & Ice

Dear Grade 3's & Parents,

Water & Ice
Please share with your parents our discussion about safety and making smart decisions about your play time outside. There are many large puddles on our school property as the ice thaws and refreezes overnight. Please stay away from the water and ice as it is not safe.

Swimming
Our swimming lessons start tomorrow afternoon. We will be in the pool by 1:40 pm and out by 2:20 pm. We will be on the bus to and from for about 15 minutes. Please remember to pack all the items we talked about today. Also, please remember to be considerate and not have others wait for you in the change room. You need to change quickly to be in the pool and out to catch the bus. Also, a reminder not to run on the pool deck as it is slippery.

Spelling
You chose 2 more words today to practice for your spelling test. Please continue to do your homework and bring your blue book to school everyday.

Math Websites
Yesterday, I posted a website to help you practice math at home. The website will only allow you between 10 to 15 minutes of use if you do not have an account. However, try it out.

Here are the two websites shown to you today:

ixl math

Dear Grade 3's & Parents,

Parent Teacher conferences are scheduled for tonight and tomorrow morning. There is no school for students on Friday.

Thank you in advance for making an appointment to see me to discuss your child's growth and development.

What we Read Today
Today we read 'Ted' - a story about a boy with an imaginary friend and the troubles he gets into by having an 'imagination.' We will continue working on our imaginary friends next week. Hopefully, we will be able to write a new story using them as our main characters.

Swimming
Swimming begins next week - Wednesday. We will review behavioral expectations and what to pack next week.

Science
We have been waiting to continue our building projects of City of Calgary. Many of you have been away so we will wait until most of you have returned so your groups can work on them together.

Spring Concert
If you have not already done so, please return your order forms by Monday. All performances require a ticket for entry as no tickets will be issued at the door. This will assist in ensuring that all guests have seating for performances.

Math
We are still working on Multiplication. Our focus is to use various ways to solve the same problem. So far, we have 3 ways. We will introduce new ways in the upcoming week.

Have a great night & weekend.
